The Emir of Muri, Alh. Abbas Njidda Tafida, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Taraba State Food and Agricultural Sustainability Committee, has called on Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas to ensure transparency and accountability in the implementation of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project in Taraba State. This World Bank-funded initiative, which spans the 19 northern states of Nigeria, including Taraba, focuses on addressing climate change challenges, combating desertification, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

The Emir’s appeal emphasizes the need for openness regarding the allocation and utilization of funds, project timelines, and measurable impacts. Transparency in this context is critical not only for fostering public trust but also for ensuring that the objectives of the project, such as enhancing land productivity and improving the livelihoods of local communities, are effectively realized. As a key traditional and community leader, the Emir’s involvement reflects the importance of engaging all stakeholders in the project’s success.

His statement also highlights the role of traditional institutions in advocating for effective governance and sustainability. By urging transparency, the Emir aligns with the principles of accountability, which are fundamental for donor-funded projects like ACReSAL. This call serves as a reminder of the need for collaborative efforts between the government, traditional leaders, and citizens to ensure the successful implementation of initiatives aimed at improving climate resilience and agricultural sustainability.

Such a stance not only strengthens the credibility of the ACReSAL project but also promotes a culture of participatory governance, ensuring that the project’s benefits reach the intended communities. Governor Kefas’s administration has the opportunity to leverage this call for transparency to build stronger relationships with stakeholders and drive impactful outcomes for the state.
